Local Spawning Coho Salmon

My local forest has section on one side of the highway which for some unknown reason, I had not yet explored in the thirteen months I have lived here. Until today, that is. Having gone further to try to see salmon in their spawning season swimming upstream, with limited results, I now discover that late in the season here they are, fifteen minutes' walk away. There were many, and I was able to get close to the water. At first, the salmon retreated to waiting pools until they realised I was no threat to them. Then they came back out to play. In total I saw seven salmon in one area, of varying sizes. After an hour of taking photos and watching their antics, I finally managed to capture the biggest coho of all jumping upstream on camera. It was about the same length as from my wrist to the top of my shoulder. I was very lucky really, because initially I had gone out hiking without my camera, and had to hurry home to get it and make my way back to the area of the creek. Fortunately, they were still there. Perhaps I'll have to have one of their distant relatives for dinner sometime soon.
