From Another Era

Today I learned a new way of classifying years. BP, which stands for Before Present, is a time scale used in scientific disciplines, with the present taken to be 1950 for the purposes of making sense of the number of years. I've always thought of my parents being considerably older than me, and now that I can classify them as being from the year 3BP, I have the confirmation that they are indeed, relics. I was watching a programme on television this evening about sabre-toothed tigers, amusingly called smilodons. Perhaps I'll ask my parents about their experiences with smilodons. Oh hang on, that's BC not BP. Ah, I'll ask them anyway.
